The Meadow Ridge Female Minor Hockey Association is hoping to get more girls interested in the sport by offering them a chance to get out on the ice and shoot a few pucks around for free this coming Monday.

Any females between the ages of five and 15 are eligible for the event, which is hosted by the Meadow Ridge Barracudas.

By providing hockey sticks and covering the costs of skate and helmet rentals, the hockey association is hopeful that a few more girls will want to join a local team just in time for new player registration, which opened on June 15.

Any girls that attend will not only get to try their hand at basic hockey skills, but will also get a chance to meet some of the Barracuda players and coaches.

This free hockey event will take place at the Pitt Meadows Arena on Monday, June 19, from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m.
