LETTER: Granddad of murdered man grateful for support

Grandfather expresses special thanks to 'street people' who attended Dustin's celebration of life

Dear Editor,

RE: Online condolences pour in for man shot dead in Maple Ridge, The News, June 3

On June 22, 2024, at the Maple Ridge Baptist Church, the celebration of life was held for Dustin Evans, who’s life was suddenly taken from us on May 31 of this year.
In attendance with family and close friends, were a number of what are called street people.
They bowed their heads during prayers, they enjoyed the coffee and sandwiches, like we all did.
At the end, they didn’t go home to a fancy home or condo, nor get into a new vehicle.
No, they gathered outside in their little groups and talked among themselves.
They were there to support Dustin’s family, to say we also care about your loss.
I’m Dustin’s granddad. I thank you.
Be safe.

Ian Evans, Maple Ridge
