New portables are being added to three schools in the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows School District.

One portable will be at Yennadon Elementary School, one at Golden Ears Elementary, and two will be at c’usqunela Elementary.

The portables are necessary, said Irena Pochop with SD42, because the district continues to experience enrolment growth.

“Yennadon, Golden Ears, and c’usqunela elementary schools are currently at capacity, so we are needing to add portables to accommodate this growth,” explained Pochop.

“In the meantime, we continue to advocate to the Ministry of Education and Child Care for capital funding for new schools and school expansions as a part of our capital planning process,” she added.

Anticipated occupancy dates are Monday, Oct. 9 and Monday, Oct. 16 for students at Yennadon Elementary and Golden Ears Elementary, and Monday, Nov. 13 for students at c’usqunela Elementary.
