The Fraser North Farmers Market Society, which oversees markets in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, has a new person at the helm.

Ron Gorman is the new executive director, taking the reins from the outgoing executive director Alex Pope.

A seafood vendor for 15 years, four of which as a market manager, Gorman brings years of market board experience to the table.

Gorman is excited to join the Fraser North Farmers Market Society, read the official announcement, noting that he has a fondness for the market community.

”Ron sees markets as a fantastic community hub that we can all rally around to celebrate local food, small businesses and unique communities,” it read.

Gorman is expected to bring “a touch of fun” to the market after years of working in the childcare industry as a youth pastor, working at summer camps and working with teens.

The Fraser North Farmers Market Society thanked Pope for his leadership over the past two and a half years as executive director, and the past six years on the board of directors, noting his hard work building on the strengths of the society like establishing an additional Farmers Market for Pitt Meadows, extending the season year-round in Maple Ridge with the Haney Winter Market, and fundraising to extend the Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program over the winter.

“Alex’s business and computer background was beneficial in improving back-end processes to support the operations of the Fraser North Farmers Market Society,”

the statement read.
