The province is granting the City of Maple Ridge $150,000 to speed the approval of new housing projects in the city.
Local MLAs said the funds are aimed at streamlining the process for developers to start building.
"Getting more housing built, faster, is top of mind for people in Maple Ridge, and across the province," said Bob D'Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge East. "I'm glad we can provide the city of Maple Ridge with this funding as we all work towards a common goal of supporting our growing community."
The grant is part of the Local Government Development Approvals Program (LGPAD), and Maple Ridge is among 38 municipalities to receive funding. Pitt Meadows is not included among the cities getting grants from the $4.4 million fund.
The program encourages local governments to explore innovative approaches to improve development approval processes, from the pre-application phase to the issuance of the building permit.
"Our partnerships with local governments are so vital, because they know what the specific needs and challenges are in their own communities," said Lisa Beare, MLA for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. "I look forward to continuing to work across levels of government to bring more housing to people in Maple Ridge."
The maximum any city will receive with the latest announcement will be $150,000, and Maple Ridge is just $16 short of that.
