It seemed like a typical weekday morning for Chilliwack’s Leila Quadri.

As it turned out it would be anything but, as mixed into her daily routine was the realization that she had just won $1 million in the June 1 Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw.

“I had just finished my cup and decided to check my lottery tickets,” said Quadri. “I checked the website and knew I won, but to double check I scanned (my ticket) through the BCLC Lotto! App.”

Quadri’s daughter was with her when she learned of her newfound wealth. “She was just shocked and quiet at first,” said Quadri. “I was running back and forth around the house with excitement.”

“It's unbelievable,” said Quadri on how it feels to win. “It means a great retirement and good security.”

She purchased her winning ticket from a lottery kiosk at Cottonwood Centre in Chilliwack, and while she takes some time to decide what’s next, she plans to celebrate with her family.

It has been a successful start to 2024 for B.C., with lottery players redeeming more than $48 million in Lotto 6/49 winnings. The nationwide lottery game is drawn twice a week with the Gold Ball Draw guaranteeing a prize of $1 million, or a shot at the growing Gold Ball Jackpot which starts at $10 million.
