Thousands come out to celebrate Canada Day in Pitt Meadows

Family fun in Spirit Square with dog show, show and shine, and powwow dancing

Canada Day festivities started in Pitt Meadows with Lions Club members flipping their famous pancakes, and ended with Almost Famous performing live music on the stage.

The city was expecting a crowd of approximately 1,500 for the event

The annual July 1 celebrations featured a variety of entertainment, including a men's traditional powwow dance featuring Muuk Muuktsakit (Oscar Joseph), the hereditary chief of Ouinmatis Kwatswiath from Katzie First Nation and Ahousaht First Nation.

There were opening ceremonies presided over by Mayor Nicole Macdonald, a dog show and sniffing competition, the fifth annual show and shine full of classic cars, watermelon eating contest and more. The stage saw the popular children's entertainer Norden the Magician, the music of Miss Shauna, and Almost Famous.

And there was red and white birthday cake – 500 pieces of cake, and another 300 cupcakes.
