Pitt Meadows isn’t the only place with a future golf star in the making, as Maple Ridge golfer Kaiwen Jiang recently took first place at the MJT Mini Tour OOM Invitational in Richmond.

The nine-year-old athlete topped the Boys 9-10 division on March 27 as he competed in his first MJT Mini Tour event of 2024.

Jiang had a pretty consistent performance, on the front nine holes, only slipping up and getting a bogey twice.

But it was on the back nine that he really cranked up on the heat on his competition, with Jiang shooting an eagle on hole 11, solidifying his position on top of the leaderboard.

Jiang finished the tournament with a score of +2, giving him a comfortable three-stroke lead ahead of his nearest opponent.

“I feel really happy and excited,” said Jiang about his win.

The next MJT Mini Tour event will be the IMG Jr. Worlds Qualifier in Tsawwassen on April 21.
