Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows gymnasts selected for 2024 BC Winter Games

4 local athletes and an assistant coach will be heading to Quesnel in February

With the 2024 BC Winter Games less than a month away, the team rosters have officially been released, with more than 130 athletes, coaches, zone representatives, and supervisors being selected to compete in the gymnastics events alone.

Gymnastics BC MAG program coordinator Thorstein Fischer explained that the organization is incredibly excited to send its top provincial junior-aged athletes to compete in the Cariboo Regional District.

“The BC Games stand as a pivotal platform, offering our artistic gymnastics athletes and coaches a profound development opportunity,” said Fischer.

“It serves as a transformative journey, shaping not only skilled gymnasts but instilling in them the values of dedication, teamwork, and perseverance, laying the foundation for a future generation of champions both in the gym and in life.”

Athletes are separated by zones, with all Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows gymnasts belonging to Zone 3, despite many of them being members of gymnastics clubs outside of their zone.

The local gymnasts competing at the 2024 BC Winter Games include:

• Hayley Halstead (TAG Sports Centre, team athlete)

• Olivia Rensen (Flip City Gymnastics, team athlete)

• Elle Fenton (TAG Sports Centre, wildcard athlete)

• Niquita Fortich-Balatbat (Club Aviva, wildcard athlete)

• Megan Goble (TAG Sports Centre, assistant coach)

The 2024 BC Winter Games will take place in Lhtako Dene Nation and the City of Quesnel from Feb. 22 to 25.
