June is International Pride Month, and there are upcoming public events in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

This Saturday, June 8, brings Pride in the Park to Maple Ridge’s Memorial Peace Park – a free, family friendly event that brings people together for entertainment, games, music, barbecue, face painting and other activities. This event will be emceed by David C. Jones, and feature performances by DJ Gaybae?, Carrie Dawn, Scarlett Rose, and more.

There will also be booths and vendors

The first Pride in the Park event in Maple Ridge was held in 2016, and it is organized by the Plea Community Services Society. Pride in the Park runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information, or to donate, see plea.ca

Throughout Pride Month city hall will be lit up in rainbow colours, and flying a pride flag.

Pitt Meadows marks the Pride season with an annual concert in the park, coming up this year on June 19 at Spirit Square, next to city hall.

Back again this year is the Vancouver band Queer as Funk. This is another free, all-ages community concert, that runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Queer as Funk aims for dance-able music with lots of cover tunes, Motown, funk, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin and more, and they get the crowd up and dancing.
