With the new year now upon us, many of the sparkling holiday displays throughout Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows will start to disappear in the coming weeks.

But uPlan wants to celebrate the effort that local homeowners went through to create such fun and festive displays, with the winner of their holiday lights contest being recently announced.

The local youth-led community group hosted their contest in partnership with The News and put together an interactive light display map with more than 40 entries in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

As part of the contest, uPlan members Zoe, Nixin, Kevin, and Yuwo provided their services as tour guides and carollers for the seniors bus tour, which took people throughout the community to admire the beautiful holiday displays.

Afterward, votes were cast for the best display, with Pitt Meadows home being declared the winner.

The decorations at 11087 Barnston View Rd. featured a more classic Christmas theme, and is the same home known for setting up a graveyard display each Halloween that features humorous pun-filled crosses.

The lights map received more than 18,000 views throughout December, with uPlan liaison Kim Dumore explaining that she was thrilled to see the contest get such a positive response from the community.

“The joy and festive spirit shared by the community made this event truly special,” said Dumore.

“uPlan is always excited to play a key role in fostering community connections. The Holiday Light Tour is just one way we contribute to the vibrancy of our community throughout the year.”

Anyone interested in joining uPlan, which is open to all youth between the ages of 15 and 24 in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, is encouraged to email uplanrm@gmail.com.
