In addition to selling groceries, one Maple Ridge grocery store will also be collecting groceries next month as part of the annual food drive for the local food bank.

Shipley’s No Frills will kick off its food drive on Nov. 30 and will continue collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations until Christmas Eve.

This fundraiser comes at a time when many locals are preparing to indulge in their own feasts this holiday season, and is a great reminder that not everyone is in a position where they can afford to do that, explained Hunger Count Canada.

“Many Maple Ridge community members are grappling with food insecurity,” said Hunger Count Canada. “2023 unfortunately marked record food bank usage across Canada with almost 2 million visits in March alone.”

All donations made will go toward the Friends in Need Food Bank, which helps many families in need in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

Donations will be accepted at Shipley’s No Frills, 22427 Dewdney Trunk Rd., from Nov. 30 to Dec. 24. The store is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
