While Memorial Peace Park will be buzzing with fun and excitement on Canada Day, not every nearby facility will be welcoming the public that day.
The Maple Ridge Leisure Centre will have its pool off-limits on July 1 due to the Haney Neptunes hosting their water polo tournament that day.
The ACT Arts Centre will also be closed, which is in stark contrast to previous Canada Day celebrations.
"Due to the delayed and unresolved operating agreement between the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts Council and the City of Maple Ridge for operation of The ACT Arts Centre, the Arts Council has made the difficult decision to close The ACT Arts Centre on Canada Day," explained the Arts Council in an online notice.
According to the Arts Council, the previous operating agreement term expired on Dec. 31 of last year, with a new one still not being worked out with the city.
"In this environment, the Arts Council must conserve resources amid uncertainty caused by the city’s decision, until a new term of the agreement can be enacted," said the council.
In previous years, The ACT had hosted a wide array of free activities on Canada Day.
This closure will only last one day, with the arts centre returning to normal operating hours on July 2.
In addition to these two facilities being closed for Canada Day, there will also be some road closures that residents should be aware of.
A section of 224 Street will be closed on July 1, extending from 119 Avenue to Dewdney Trunk Road, with limited free parking available in the underground lots accessible via Dewdney Trunk Road or Edge Street.
