Canada Day closed downtown Maple Ridge streets for a community celebration, with thousands of people in Memorial Peace Park and along 224th street for the annual July 1 festivities.
Many in the crowd were dressed in red and white, in clothes with the Maple Leaf, or even wearing the flag itself.
"Canada Day is more than just a holiday, it's a reminder of the values that unite us as Canadians," Mayor Dan Ruimy told the crowd.
"From the bustling cities to the serene landscapes, Canada is a tapestry of people, stories and traditions that make us who we are," the mayor added.
We are, based on Monday's downtown event, a people who don't need much of an excuse to get dressed up and party.
There was live entertainment at three corners of the downtown festival zone, and in between were children games and activities – notably the Monster Foam Party – food trucks offering a variety of choices on Eat Street, and numerous vendors and community booths.
Performers ranged from headliners like Ache Brasil and Mostly Marley to local groups including the Ridge Meadows Concert Band and First Nations dancer Jane Wylie.
It was a sunny day, and early estimates pegged the crowd at more than 7,000 people.
