The RCMP mascot attended a total of 20 local events, where he handed out more than 3,000 fist bumps and 5,000 high fives.

Ridge Meadows RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Julie Klaussner explained that Safety Bear has been a big help in engaging with the local youth.

“Safety Bear provides a fun and friendly face when out with police and has become a beloved character during school visits on Fist Bump Fridays and community events like the Santa Claus Parade,” said Klaussner.

“Kids love to see Safety Bear, who immediately evokes a light-hearted atmosphere letting kids know that the police are visiting for ‘fun’ rather than it being a ‘bad reason’ that sometimes is assumed when police attend.”
