A Maple Ridge flower shop handed out bouquets of red and pink roses to strangers on the streets of Maple Ridge.

Shelly Kiselyci, owner of Maple Ridge Florists, said that while they usually do such giveaways, she realized Thursday was Random Acts of Kindness day and decided to hand out roses to strangers.

“I made small bouquets and loaded them in my truck. We then gave these away to people at the bus stop, at the leisure centre, to the person sitting on the bench by the shop. I feel everybody needs a little pick-me-up especially in the last two years,” she said.

The store which has been around since 1946, has been doing such acts of kindness several times through the years. Kiselyci said that at times she puts out a bucket with flowers at the end of the day and sticks a note with it saying anyone can pick up a flower. She often wraps bouquets and randomly drops them off to strangers on the street, with the message ‘Happy day’ on it, or gives out mason jars to local businesses.

“My model is kindness breed kindness. If you give no strings attached, it comes back to you; and we all need a little bit of kindness and positivity in our lives,” she said.
