There was a helicopter rescue of an injured man in rural Maple Ridge on Friday afternoon, April 5.

According to spokesperson Rick Laing of Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue, his group was dispatched at approximately 2 p.m. to a call for a man who had suffered a lower back injury on Blue Mountain, off McNutt Road.

Blue Mountain is well known for trails popular with dirt bikers and for outdoor recreation, but Laing was not aware what the man was doing when he was injured.

Given the victim’s distance from the road, approximately 6 km, and the rough terrain they would have to carry him over, the rescue team determined it was best to call in Talon Helicopters to fly the injured man out.

More details as they become available.
