An exhibition aiming to break down the stigma surrounding hearing loss is taking place in Maple Ridge.

The exhibit called The Way We Hear It is being put on by the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association - BC Chapter for Better Hearing and Communication month in May.

Guests at the Albion Community Centre will be able to immerse themselves in the world of sound and experience what it’s like for someone with hearing loss, or even take a journey through their own auditory system.

There will be activities for people of all ages at the exhibit, as there will be something for everyone to learn and discover.

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, British Columbia Chapter is a consumer-based organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of persons with hearing loss through education, self-empowerment, advocacy, and accessibility.

“Now more than ever we are being called to spread awareness of hearing health and reduce the stigma. With the launch of B.C.’s own Accessibility Act and the recent pandemic creating pronounced communication challenges for those with even a mild degree of hearing loss, our hearing health is truly becoming everyone’s affair,” reads the Spring Program Guide for the city.

The Way We Hear It runs from May 1 – 31 at 24165 104th Ave. in Maple Ridge.

Schools can register to see exhibit during the school day by calling 604-463-5221.
